Seven Canadian students from Selkirk College, British Columbia, participated in a Tierra solar training program in California during four weeks. They completed a 90 hour module in collaboration with local Southern California companies Grid Alternatives, Sharp Solar, and Sunearth. They also received a certificate of completion Tierra’s fourth 48 hour PV and Solar Thermal Installers course in 2010 together with seven Taller San José graduates.
Seven from Taller San José and two students from Orange County Conservation Corps (OCCC) completed Tierra’s 48 hour PV and Solar Thermal Installers course. They became the fifth group of graduates of Tierra’s program that has trained a total of 36 youth during 2010.

Tierra Inst. Int. booth at the Christmas Fair in Sarriá, Barcelona. Hand woven products of the Mujeres Mayas de Jovel Cooperative of Chiapas, Mexico, were offered for sale, and Tierra Inst. Int. programs and activities were promoted. The Sound of Bamboo, a non profit organization in Thailand also participated at the booth, offering arts and crafts made by women of Ahka ethnic minorities, Burma refugees, and children affected by aids in Chian Rai.
Tierra receives the Electronics Technician Association International (ETA-I) certification as a Solar Photovoltaic training center. Tierra is also now an oficial ETA test center to administer the PV Solar Installer Level 1 ETA-I certification.
Eric Riegler, an LED artist and connoisseur since 1998, from Huntington Beach California, becomes a Tierra volunteer to assist in the development and implementation of Tierra’s solar energy lighting program in the rural communities of the department of Quiché, Guatemala, and the state of Chiapas in Mexico.
A group of students from the Universidades Tecnológicas of Nayarit and León, Mexico, majoring in various disciplines, arrive in Barcelona to complete their three months internship in Barcelona’s businesses and industry facilitated by Tierra Inst. Int.
Tierra Inst. Int. awards a Mobility Scholarship to Rosa Isela Torres Blanco, Técnico Superior with a major in Commercialization from the Universidad Tecnológica of the Sierra of Nayarit, state of Nayarit, Mexico, to complete her internship at SB Hotels in Barcelona.
José Pérez Becerra, a close collaborator and volunteer of Tierra Inst. Inst. returns to Pachuca, state of Hidalgo, Mexico after almost three years in Barcelona. He will be applying his Master in Business Administration and the doctorate program in Sustainability of UNESCO from the Universidad Politécnica of Catalunya where he is completing his doctoral thesis. In addition, he will apply his learning experience on his internship at the Department of Thermal Motors, and he will be able to promote at the same time Tierra Inst. Int cooperation and mobility training programs in Mexico.
Four students from Golden West College, Huntington Beach, California, participate in Tierra’s four week Spanish Immersion Program in the context of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy in Cuernavaca, state of Morelos, Mexico.

On February 16th, a welcome reception was offered at the Mexican Consulate in Barcelona by Mrs. Francisca E. Méndez Escobar, Consul, and Mrs. Sylvia Pederzini Villareal, Economic and Trade attache, to the students of the Universidades de Nayarit and León who are completing their internship in Barcelona’s businesses and industry facilitated by Tierra Inst. Int.
An alumni of Golden West College in Huntington Beach, California, prepares her departure to volunteer for Tierra at the Universidad Tecnológica del Usumacinta (UTU), state of Tabasco, Mexico. She is Tierra’s second volunteer who will participate in the program of cooperation between Tierra and UTU assisting in the teaching and tutoring of English Language and Sign Language to students, faculty and staff at UTU.
